In January of 2008, 2,475 Mundelein households received a survey from the Mundelein Park & Recreation District asking for their feedback to determine what residents would like to see and do in their parks. With a healthy 28% return rate, the results gave the Park District a good base to determine the wants and needs of residents.
Some interesting facts include:
♦ The average length of residency is 15 years;
♦ 90% of the respondents have access to the internet and 80% have made a purchase on the internet in the past year;
♦ 96% of the respondents are registered to vote;
♦ 81% said they feel taxes paid to the Park District are reasonable, while 12% said they were too low;
♦ 55% of those responding said they are not willing to pay more taxes to improve the parks and/or facilities;
♦ And, 89% said they feel the Park District programs are a good value.
Some of the most interesting information came from the questions on awareness. Too many Mundelein residents are not aware of all the outstanding programs, parks and facilities available to them. We also learned that the most important issue to the majority of residents responding to the survey is to purchase and/or preserve open space.
Park District staff and volunteers have reviewed these results and developed an action plan to address issues and concerns. If you are interested in seeing the plan, please contact Margaret Resnick, Director of Parks & Recreation.
